TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian legislator blasted Washington for blacklisting a dozen companies and individuals for evading US sanctions, and said the measure means breaching the Geneva agreement and proves the US unreliability.
“After the Geneva agreement (between Iran and the world powers late November) the two sides promised to act upon the contents of the deal and even upon the endorsement of the agreement. Then the westerners said that they didn’t trust the Islamic Republic of Iran and are concerned that Iran would breach the deal,” Rapporteur of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini told FNA on Saturday.
“But today we are witnessing that in fact the Islamic Republic of Iran and Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei)’s remarks that ‘the Americans are unreliable and don’t keep their promise’ have come true.”
Naqavi Hosseini called on the Iranian government to respond to the US action by installing a new generation of centrifuges and powerfully continuing activities at Arak heavy water installations.
Iranian negotiators in Vienna halted nuclear talks with major world powers on Thursday to return to Tehran for consultations after Washington imposed new sanctions against the country.
The negotiators had been discussing the implementation of a landmark interim accord agreed last month with the Group 5+1 (Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States, plus Germany).
“The Iranian negotiators interrupted the talks with the G5+1 for consultations in Tehran,” a negotiator said on Thursday.
Under the interim deal reached in Geneva, Iran agreed to freeze parts of its suspect nuclear program for six months in return for some $7bln in relief from western sanctions.
The United States also agreed to refrain from slapping new sanctions on Iran, but senior administration officials argued that Thursday’s measures were taken as part of the existing sanctions regime against Tehran.
