European Parliament delegation arrives in Iran for official visit

TEHRAN (FNA)- A European Parliament (EP) delegation arrived in Tehran Friday morning to confer with senior Iranian officials on ways to deepen bilateral ties in various arenas.


The eight-member delegation of the EP is in Iran at the invitation of Head of the Iranian Parliaments Research Center Kazzem Jalali.

During their six-day stay in Tehran, the EP parliamentarians are to meet with Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, Chairman of the Parliaments National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi and a number of senior Iranian officials.

In October, Head of the Socialist Fraction at the EP Hannes Swoboda in a meeting with Jalali in Tehran underlined that the European companies are interested to cooperate with Iran in economic and trade fields.

During the meeting in the Iranian capital, Swoboda pointed to the current status of Iran-EU relations, and said, Development of bilateral political relations can pave the way for upgrading the level of economic and trade transactions.

Jalali, for his part, said that the political atmosphere created in Iran after the recent presidential election in the country has created an appropriate opportunity for the expansion of Iran-EU relations.

He also underlined the important role of the European Parliament in the enhancement of political, economic and cultural relations between Iran and Europe.
