Venezuelan envoy urges US to respect Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- Venezuelan Ambassador to Tehran Amenhotep Zambrano underlined Iran's significant position on international and regional scenes, and called on the US to respect Iran.

The US should respect Iran and it would be very good if it also shows respect for Venezuela, Zambrano told FNA in Tehran.

The US officials' claim that Iran is in pursuit of acquiring nuclear weapons is a sheer lie, he said.

The envoy said Iran has developed its nuclear program by its own experts, and will never ask for the US permission to continue its nuclear activities as it did not do so for beginning it.

The Venezuelan ambassador reiterated that Iran is different from other regional countries, and said Iran and Venezuela have shown to the world that it is possible to live independent from the US.

Zambrano reiterated that Iran and Venezuela will never quit their anti-Imperialist policies.

In October, the Venezuelan envoy appreciated Iran's eye-catching efforts for restoration of peace and tranquility in the region.

Zambrano said that Iran is the pillar of the Middle-East and plays a highly significant role in the region.

The Venezuelan diplomat added that Tehran is doing its utmost efforts to foster unity among regional countries in order to contribute to the restoration of peace in the region.

On Friday, also Head of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Zhang Xinfeng stressed Iran's influential role in ending regional crises, and hoped for the promotion of the country's position at the SCO.

Speaking at a meeting with Irans delegation on the sideline of the SCO meeting in Tashkent, Zhang Xinfeng underlined the importance of Irans position in preventing regional crises as well as confronting the negative impacts of the disputes, including in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria.

The SCO official expressed the hope that Irans position would promote from an observer member to a permanent member in near future.
