Zahra Nemati among top 10 paralympic athletes

Tehran, Dec 9, IRNA Iran?s Paralympic archery gold medallist Zahra Nemati has been placed in the list of five finalists for the International Paralympic Committees Best Female Athlete for the 2013 Parlaympic Sport Awards.
Yunidis Castillo (Cuba), Teresina Guillermina (Brazil), Esther Vergeer (Holanda) and Yu Chui Lee (Hong Kong) are other contenders in the list.


The 28-year-old Nemati was the first Iranian female gold medalist of the women?s individual recurve bow W1/W2 competition in the London 2012 Paralympic Games. She also took bronze in the team recurve bow event.

Last month, Nemati pocketed gold medal of the 2013 World Archery Para-Championships, held in Thailand.

Nemati, winning 16 world championship and paralimpic medals, including five gold, four silver and seven bronze medals, is the most honorable athlete of Iranian disabled sports.

Last year, the 28-year-old archer became the first Iranian woman to win a gold medal at either an Olympic or Paralympic Games.

Nemati had a black belt in Taekwondo before she was involved in a serious accident in 2004 that left her with a spinal cord injury. Two years later, she took up Archery.
