Russia counts on positive mindset at P5+1 and Iran talks

Russia expects that all participants in the talks between the P5+1 group of international mediators and Iran on the Iranian nuclear program will maintain a constructive approach.

"Much is going to depend on the implementation of existing understandings by the sides. We hope that all participants in the talks will keep up the constructive spirit of Geneva and the political will demonstrated there to finally reach mutually acceptable solutions to fully restore the confidence of the international community in the purely peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program," says a commentary of the Foreign Ministry information and press service circulated on Monday ahead of the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Iran.

The understandings reached in Geneva on November 24 "will help dispel several of the most pressing concerns about the nature and objectives of operations conducted by Iran in the nuclear sphere," the commentary says.

The joint plan of action implies concrete measures to increase the transparency of the Iranian nuclear program that will be taken in close cooperation with IAEA, it says.

"Simultaneously with adopting pressing measures the sides will continue work to coordinate the final comprehensive solution. The document opens up the prospect for Iran to fully exercise its inalienable rights as a member-nation of the nuclear nonproliferation treaty, including the right to enrich uranium. It implies the gradual easing of the regimen of sanctions against Iran," the commentary says.
