Georgian university launches Persian language department

A department of Persian Language and Literature has been launched at the St. Andrew University of the Patriarchate in Georgian capital city of Tbilisi.
Irans Ambassador in Tbilisi Abbas Talebifar, University Chairman of Academic Council Sergo Vardosanidze and Irans cultural attach Bahram Kian attended the opening gala.

A number of Iranian and Georgian scholars in Persian language and literature along with some students also flocked to the event held on Saturday, December 7.

Iran is keen to expand its cultural, economic and political relations with Georgia, said Iranian ambassador at the opening ceremony.

An exhibition of Persian art and culture titled Manifestations of Todays Iran was also mounted on the sidelines of the event.

Photos of Irans landmarks, handicrafts, Persian carpets and Iranology books were among the works displayed at the exhibition.

Organized by the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), the exhibition was held to celebrate the establishment of Persian language department at the Georgian university.
