Tehran, Dec 4, IRNA West Azarbaijan Agricultural Jihad Organization is scheduled to hold a seminar on water participatory management of Orumiyeh Lake Basin on December 9, at the West Azarbaijan Agricultural Jihad Provincial Office, in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The seminar is part of the follow up to the meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in New York in September, as well as the meeting between Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran in November in which they talked about bilateral cooperation on environmental issues.

In the seminar, an JICA irrigation expert dispatched from Japan to northern Iranian province of Golestan, will give lectures regarding participatory water management model.

Orumieh Lake is the largest lake in the Middle East, and the sixth largest saltwater lake on earth, with a surface area of approximately 5,200 km (2,000 mile), a high percentage of which has dried up in the past few years.
