FM deputy: No parties invited to Geneva-2 meeting on Syria yet

Tehran, Dec 4, IRNA Deputy Foreign Minister for the Arab and African countries Hossein Amir Abdollahian said though the date of Geneva-2 meeting has already been fixed, no parties have been invited to the event yet.
He made the remarks here Wednesday while talking to reporters.

Pointing to the differences in views on holding the meeting and the countries which are to attend it, he said Tehran considers the event as a political tool to resolve the Syrian crisis.

He said Iran believed the meeting ought to prepare an appropriate ground for the Syrian people to decide for their destiny in peace.

Commenting on the objectives of the visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to Iran, he said the visit is aimed at conveying the congratulation of the Iraqi government to Iran on the recent nuclear agreement with the 5+1.

Issues of mutual interest as well as regional developments including the Syrian crisis will be also discussed during the visit, he added.
