IRGC navy’s might rattles enemies of Iran: Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy commander said the effective strategy of deterring threats has thwarted all enemy plots, adding that the presence of his forces in the country’s territorial waters has scared the adversaries.
Speaking in a cultural ceremony on Monday, Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi lauded the IRGC naval forces for their “mighty and courageous” presence in the country’s maritime territories and beyond, and noted that adoption of “deterrence strategy” has thwarted all plots hatched by the enemies.

The top commander said even the enemies have acknowledged the capabilities of the IRGC Navy, something that has forced them to give up any adventurism in the regional waterways.

In relevant comments on October 28, Rear Admiral Fadavi announced that his forces attained high deterrent capabilities, adding that Iran had the vital waterways in the Persian Gulf under full control.

He had also pointed to the remarkable presence of some 100 IRGC naval vessels in the Persian Gulf, and added, “These vessels are active and have a constant presence in the region.”

Iran is now the main power providing security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring the safe passage of energy supplies through the strategic region.

The strait is a narrow body of water -- it is 21 nautical miles wide at its narrowest point -- that separates Iran from the United Arab Emirates, and is the only point of access to the Persian Gulf.

It is also the busiest passageway for oil tankers in the world, with more than 17 million barrels (some 20 percent of global consumption) passing through it every day.
