Bandar Anzali (Port), Dec 2, IRNA Iran is going to establish new navy districts in the northern costal parts of the country, the commander of Iranian Navys North Fleet and 4th Naval District said on Sunday evening.We have established a navybelt along the (Iranian part of the) coastal region of the Caspian Sea in order to observe full control over the region under the Islamic Republics rule, said Rear Admiral Afshin Rezaie-Haddad in a press conference.
He said that one of the contributing factors to security index everywhere in the world is the countries might and good governance, and establishment of rulership status of them in their territorial regions.
We believe peace in the Caspian Sea is defined by the might of its littoral states, as when they would be mighty and would have a mighty presence at the scene that would safeguard and guarantee peace and stability, he said.
That is the reason why the Navy has established its presence in the Caspian Sea and it has no other objective, but safeguarding Irans interests and respecting the interests of the other littoral countries of the Caspian Sea in the framework of the agreements among them and the international regulations, he said.
Speaking about the objectives of the Kazakhstan Navy commanders visit of Iran, he said, Dispatching naval fleets to adjacent countries ports is one of the normal practices of the different countries navies and it happens in case of the countrys southern naval fleet, too, every year.
Rear Admiral Rezaie said that cultural interactions, such as exchanging students is a part of broader economic and communication cooperation among different countries.
30% OF IRANS BRODERS ARE ITS COASTS
The commander of Iranian Navys North Fleet and 4th Naval District pointed out that 30% of the Iranian borders are coastal borders, while 93% of the countrys exports are made through those coastal borders, deducting the high significance of the IRI Navy in creation of an economic epic in the country (a reference to the Supreme Leaders demand).
Most of the major world cities are constructed on sea coasts and most of the countries that have access to seas have more blossoming economies, he said.
Rear Admiral Rezaie said that somehow all the countries that have access to the seas try to have broader presence in the open seas and it is to our strategic interest to develop the culture of sailing and to provide security for our sailors by our Navy fleets.
He said that mighty presence in the free waters and defending the national interests depend on capability, modern facilities, and highly motivated human forces, all of which do exist in the Iranian Navy today.
That comes as the Iranian Navy has been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008, when Somali raiders hijacked the Iranian-chartered cargo ship, MV Delight, off the coast of Yemen.
According to UN Security Council resolutions, different countries can send their warships to the Gulf of Aden and coastal waters of Somalia against the pirates and even with prior notice to Somali government enter the territorial waters of that country in pursuit of Somali sea pirates.
The Gulf of Aden - which links the Indian Ocean with the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean Sea - is an important energy corridor, particularly because Persian Gulf oil is shipped to the West via the Suez Canal.
