Iran to unveil new missile-launching warship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iran is set to unveil a new missile-launching frigate on Sunday, the navy commander said, adding that a number of military choppers are also planned to enter service in the near future.

Iran will unveil a missile frigate, known as Neize (Spear), in the countrys southern port of Bushehr on Sunday, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said in Tehran today, on the eve of National Navy Day.

The commander then noted that a number of mine-sweeping and anti-surface helicopters are also set to be unveiled on the weekend.

As regards the features of a newly-unveiled radar in the Navys possession, Sayyari said the Asr (Era) phased array radar system is operable both on naval vessels and on coast.

On Wednesday, November 27, the Iranian Navy unveiled the Asr advanced phased array radar system, which has been designed and manufactured domestically by its experts.

In relevant comments, Iranian Army Lieutenant Commander Brigadier General Abdolrahim Mousavi announced that the radar will be mounted on the naval vessels to boost the combat capabilities of the Navy.

This radar detects an object with the area of 4 square meters at a distance of 110 miles, and also detects cruise missiles, Mousavi added.
