Pakistani PM condemns Karachi blasts as Taliban claim responsibility

Islamabad, Nov 23, IRNA - Pakistani Taliban on Saturday claimed responsibility for the twin bomb attacks in the port city of Karachi which killed seven people and injured some 40.
The bombs were attached to motorcycles and exploded at crowded marketplace in the majority-Shiite Ancholi area of Karachi late Friday night.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman claimed responsibility in telephone calls to media persons.

Shahid said that these attacks were reaction to the sectarian attacks in the city of Rawalpindi on November 25 which killed 11 people and the US drone attack on a religious school on November 21 killing six students and teachers.

The TTP threatened that such attacks would continue if those responsible for the violence in Rawalpindi are not brought to justice and the drone strikes do not stop.

The Karachi blasts outside roadside hotels killed and injured civilians, police said.

The blasts also damaged shops and vehicles.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the bomb blasts and termed killing of innocent people as a cowardly act of terrorism, the PM office said Saturday.

Sympathizing deeply with the bereaved families, the PM also prayed for the early recovery of the injured.
