Jakarta backs Tehran’s nuclear program, Indonesian parliament speaker tells Majlis

TEHRAN, Nov. 21 (MNA) – Jakarta supports the peaceful nuclear program that Tehran is pursuing, Indonesian Parliament Speaker H. Marzuki Alie said at an open session of the Iranian parliament on Wednesday.

“We support Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and hope Iran will achieve the goal it has set for itself,” said the top Indonesian lawmaker who visited Iran at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart, Ali Larijani.

Commenting on bilateral ties, Marzuki Alie expressed hope that his trip would pave the way for the expansion of ties between the two countries in the economic, political, cultural, and social areas.
“Parliamentary relations between Indonesia and Iran are friendly. But there are obstacles in the way of the strengthening of ties between the two countries, which we hope could be removed during this trip.”

Larijani also delivered a speech after his Indonesian counterpart, in which he said, “We hope trade ties between Iran and Indonesia would be increased because these two countries are exemplary and great countries in the Muslim world.”
