Afghanistan keen to use Irans Chabahar port for transit purposes

TEHRAN (FNA)- Afghan Ambassador to New Delhi Shaida M. Abdali said his country is keen to sign a trilateral agreement with Iran and India on the Chabahar port.

Abdali said that his country is eager to ink a trilateral transit agreement which is to provide a route for trade with landlocked Afghanistan.

He added that Afghanistan had exported 15 containers of dry fruits through the Chabahar port.

"We are trying to upgrade capacity of the port and railway line," Abdali said.

Iran is one of the most important donors to Afghanistan which has kept its promises to help to the reconstruction of the war-hit country.

Iran has built some roads, power transmission lines, and border stations, among the other infrastructure projects which would better link the two nations.

Iran has also contributed more than $50mln annually to Afghan anti-narcotics efforts in the last decade.
