Iranian researchers develop blood clot technology

TEHRAN, Nov. 16 (MNA) A research group in Zanjan University of Medical Sciences has developed a compound for rapid blood clotting.
The head of research group told Mehr News that the product was developed using mineral soil and that it was useful for rapid healing of burnt and scars. Mohammad Seyedi expressed hope to develop and manufacture artificial skin in the near future using this compound. A group of Zanjan University of Medical Science students and Material Engineering researchers collaborated in production of the medication which is in a powder form, he added.

The medication activates Factor 5 and 8 responsible for blood clotting, thus decreasing the time of clotting to fraction of a second, exactly 15 times faster, Seyedi said.

The medication is widely applicable in military and emergency settings where significant bloodletting occurs and would help save the injured before reaching to the hospital, added, he, and that the medication would be produced as sterile bands, powder, and sprays.

Seyedi also said that 100 grams of imported identical medication was worth US $1000 without anti-bacterial features, but our product is anti-bacterial, he added.

The product has been successfully tested in animal sample in mouse and rabbit with favorable outcomes and no inflammatory reactions, he added, and that the medication would be used in frontline injuries when the majority of them are burning, Seyedi told Mehr.

He also said that the process of healing burning injuries was effective in artificial skin production by plasma and a collagen matrix and injection of fundamental lipid cells and micro-fit blocks, which is the next phase of the research.
