Imam Hussain martyrdom commemoration was held in mourning sessions at Imam Reza's holy shrine in Mashhad. Imam Hussein, the 3rd Shia Imam, and his faithful companions were all martyred on the 10th day of Muharram month of the Islamic Lunar Year. Imam Reza is the 8th Shia Imam whose holy tomb is in Mashhad, north east Razavi Khorasan province, 900 kilometers from Tehran.
