MP: Success in Iran-G5+1 talks depends on removal of sanction

TEHRAN (Tasnim) The Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) should come up with a plan to remove all sanctions imposed against Tehran in order to secure the success of nuclear talks with Iran, an Iranian lawmaker said.

If the (nuclear) talks are to yield results, the G5+1 should have a plan for removal of all sanctions (against Iran), Mohammad Hassan Asafari, a member of the Iranian parliaments national security and foreign policy commission, told Tasnim on Monday.

Top negotiators from Iran and the Group 5+1 (also known as P5+1 and E3+3) wrapped up three days of intensive talks over Tehrans peaceful nuclear program in the Swiss city of Geneva early on Sunday.

Failing to agree on a deal, the sides have agreed to resume talks on 20 November, again in Geneva.

Asafari also reaffirmed that Irans nuclear activities are all within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and added, What have brought us to the negotiating table today are not sanctions, but we want to prove it to the world that the other side is not inclined to dialogue.

In relevant remarks on Sunday, November 10, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had announced that Tehran attended the nuclear talks with the six world powers to prove that it wants nuclear technology for peaceful purposes only.

We consider the sanctions as illegal, and regard that as a useless solution, and we have not sat at the negotiating table due to the pressure of sanctions, Rouhani said, addressing Iranian lawmakers in the countrys parliament.

"The rights of the Iranian nation and our national interests are a red line. So are nuclear rights under the framework of international regulations, which include enrichment on Iranian soil," the president noted.

Iran, one of the original states to sign the Nonproliferation Treaty, completed its Safeguards Agreement with the IAEA in 1974. Areas covered include the application and implementation of safeguards, materials control, provision of information to the IAEA, and the non-application of safeguards to nuclear material to be used in non-peaceful activities.
