Geneva chance should not be missed: Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has urged Iran and the six world powers not to miss the chance of reaching an agreement after talks over Tehrans nuclear energy program in Geneva.
Now it is important not to miss the chance, not to hinder forward movement and be guided only by unconditional priority of strengthening nuclear non-proliferation regime and not by one-sided geopolitical considerations, said Lavrov, who is in New Delhi to attend the 11th Asia-Europe meeting ( ASEM).

The closed-door talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council -- Britain, Russia, China, France and the US -- plus Germany began in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 7 and ended on Sunday.

Lavrov said the Geneva talks demonstrated encouraging signs and urged more efforts to be made by both sides to reach an agreement.

The Russian foreign minister also thanked the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton for her positive and important role in the Geneva talks over Tehrans nuclear energy program.

In a final joint press conference with Ashton, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said progress was made during the productive talks and that the two sides had reached an agreement on a number of issues.

Ashton, for her part, said that the two sides had made concrete progress in the talks, which she described as intense and constructive.

Tehran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany will continue their nuclear negotiations in Geneva on November 20.
