Parliament advisor: Iran not to withdraw from enrichment right

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speakers advisor for international affairs Hossein Sheikholeslamunderlined the rights of all members of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to enrich uranium to the needed level, and said the Iranian negotiators in talks with the world powers will not succumb to pressures to give up Iran's right of enrichment.

Enrichment is our right and we wont give up this right to anybody, Sheikholeslam said in Tehran on Saturday.

Stressing that Iran is committed to its undertakings based on the NPT, he said, The level of enrichment has not been specified in the NPT, therefore, we pursue enrichment to the level we need.

Sheikholeslam reiterated the necessity for the recognition of Irans inalienable rights, including the right of enrichment within the country, in the nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, Britain and France plus Germany).

The foreign ministers of Iran and the G5+1 are joining each other in Geneva to agree on a long-awaited deal to settle Tehrans nuclear standoff with the West.

On Friday, senior Iranian negotiator Seyed Abbas Araqchi said the much expected agreement over the settlement of Iran-West nuclear standoff will not include a stop of Iran's enrichment activities, although he said size and form of Iran's enrichment could be touched in the final deal.

As expectations are high for the attainment of a deal between Iran and the six world powers, Araqchi said that the text of the expected agreement will include all the three sections of Irans proposed plan wherein the final goal and the elements of the first and last steps will be clearly mentioned, including the confidence-building measures.

He said that experts talks at different levels are underway, and added, Once an agreement is reached on the text of the deal, the first step will begin and in case of the text of a final statement is finalized, (Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad) Zarif and (EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine) Ashton will hold a joint press conference."

Araqchi underlined that the final statement, which will be on the basis of the agreement, will include confidence-building measures by the two sides.

Enrichment is among the Iranian nations principles and basic rights, and Iran will not give up its rights, but we are ready to negotiate over the size, form and dimensions of enrichment, he added.
