TEHRAN (FNA)- Five Nobel Prize laureates in economics have deplored the West-led economic sanctions against Iran and joined an anti-embargo movement formed in the country, officials in Tehran said.5 Nobel Prize winners in economics have supported the anti-sanctions movement formed in Iran and condemned the embargos against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Iranian officials said in a conference organized by the Anti-Sanctions Movement in Tehran participated by Chairman of Tehrans Chamber of Commerce Yahya Al-e Eshaqand other economic officials of the country on Saturday.
According to the Iranian officials attending the conference, the five Economics Nobel Prize winners who have deplored the sanctions against Iran include Thomas Schelling (2005), Alvin Roth (2012), Gary Becker (1992), Robert Lucas (1995) and Kenneth Arrow (1972).
Western countries accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.
Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is now under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions and the western embargos for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment.
