Iran, India political relations now at its highest zenith
New Delhi, Nov 8, IRNA Iran and India political relations now is at its highest zenith in recent decades, said Hassan Nourian, Consul General of Islamic Republic of Iran, Friday, at Hyderabad, capital city of South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing a two-day International Seminar on Iran-India Contemporary relations, Organized by Centre for Indian Ocean Studies - Osmania University in co-operation with the Consulate General of Islamic Republic of Iran, Nourian said this seminar will touch upon all the dimensions and aspects of the opportunities and challenges in strengthening our future relations in the fields of Political, Economical, Scientific, Cultural, etc.

He said that independent India and Iran established diplomatic links on 15 March 1950. But with the establishment of Islamic Republic in Iran in 1979 a new phase of engagement between India and Iran was marked by exchange of high level visits of dignitaries to each other?s capitals which discussed a whole range of bilateral issues including economic cooperation, energy security, and expansion of bilateral trade, surface transport, regional issues and common concerns about terrorism.

Following the victory of Islamic revolution in Iran in February 1979, relations between Iran and India strengthened momentarily and the two countries share many common strategic interests, added Iranian diplomat.

Iran and India have many commonalities in their culture, civilization and history. Our contemporary relations also are in its culmination. For example, in the field of education, India enjoys special status in attracting students from Iran. At present nearly 7,000 Iranian students are studying at various higher education institutions in India, and Osmania University itself is a host to more than 400 Iranian students, noted Iranian officia.

He further noted that as already mentioned in this seminar; the sweet language of Persian had been the official language in this region for a period of 700 years and during this long span of time; thousands of books had been written in Persian by the scholars and poets of the Indian subcontinent on different subjects.

Thanking immensely to Professor Sida Gouda, Director of Centre for Indian Ocean Studies for extending his noble endeavor in conducting Seminar in Hyderabad, Iranian diplomat expressed confidence that event like these will be helping in further strengthening relationship between two countries.

Beside Hasan Nourian, the seminar was also addressed by Professor Dr.M.S.N Reddy , Regisrtar Osmana Universty, Mir Mahmoud Moosavi and Professor. Sidda Gouda, Director center for ocean study of the University.
