French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius says Iran and six world powers have made progress in the course of their nuclear talks, noting that no deal has been struck between the two sides yet.There is progress, but nothing is concluded yet, Fabius said on Friday upon his arrival in Geneva to attend the nuclear talks, a French Foreign Ministry statement said.
We want a deal that brings a solid first response to worries linked to Iran's nuclear [program]," the French foreign minister pointed out.
On Friday, Israels Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described a possible agreement in the course of nuclear talks between Iran and the six world powers as a bad deal.
US Secretary of State John Kerry is scheduled to travel to Geneva to take part in the nuclear talks after signs that Iran and the six world powers -- five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany -- are likely to achieve an agreement for a partial removal of sanctions in return for a set of confidence-building measures by Iran.
News about Kerrys travel plans came a few hours after Irans Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Thursday that it is possible for Tehran and the six world powers to reach a deal over Irans nuclear issue during the current talks, which began on Thursday.
British Foreign Secretary William Hague and German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle are also heading to Geneva to attend the nuclear negotiations.
Zarif, on the other hand, has canceled his planned trip to Rome, Italy, to stay in Geneva.
Ahead of the first session of nuclear talks, Zarif held a breakfast meeting with Ashton, who represents the six countries in the nuclear negotiations with Tehran.
Ashtons spokesman, Michael Mann, described the Thursday morning meeting as a good opening session.
