Canada lacks credibility to speak of human rights in Iran: Zarif

Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says the Canadian government has no credibility to speak of human rights situation in the Islamic Republic.
In an op-ed published on Thursday, Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird criticized the situation of human rights in Iran.

In response, the Iranian foreign minister said in an exclusive interview with CBC in Geneva, Switzerland, that Canada has no credibility to speak of human rights because it consistently supports the Israeli regime.

This comes as the government of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is under criticism for its violations of the rights of indigenous peoples in Canada.

In a report released on December 19, 2012, Amnesty International asked Canada to address human rights abuses in the country, particularly with respect to the rights of indigenous peoples.

Many native Canadians remain among the poorest members of the Canadian society, with most of them suffering poor educational, economic and social conditions.
