Russia optimistic about Iran nuclear issue: Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has expressed optimism about the resolution of Iran's nuclear issue.
Signs inspiring optimism have made themselves felt in the settlement of the problem of Irans nuclear program, Lavrov noted at a Tuesday meeting with representatives of Islamic states in Moscow on the occasion of the Islamic New Year.
Russia is ready for collective work for the sake of achieving a practical result, he said, adding, We hope that all parties in the talks will demonstrate political will and readiness for compromise, and that they will not give the absolute priority to geopolitical considerations and not undermine a real chance to accomplish a breakthrough in settling this rather acute problem.
On Tuesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said good progress has been made in the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the six world powers.

Iran and six major world powers held two days of talks in Geneva on October 15-16. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif described the talks as extensive and fruitful.

European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton, who represents the six countries in the talks, also hailed the nuclear talks as the most detailed and substantive talks held between the two sides.

The US, Israel, and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with the US and the European Union using this allegation as pretext to impose illegal sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Iran rejects the allegation, arguing that as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
