Iran, Somalia to promote economic ties

Tehran, Nov 3, IRNA Somalian Minister of Industries Mahmud Ahmed Hassan on Sunday held talks with Minister of Industry, Mines and Commerce Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh on ways to develop economic cooperation.
During the meeting, Nematzadeh said that the two Muslim states share close political views and efforts should be made to promote economic ties to keep up with the excellent diplomatic ties.

Joint investment by the two countries will serve as driving force for the other sectors, he said.

Nematzadeh deplored that despite the natural resources, Somalia is lagging behind due to the war.

He said that he will assign a group to visit the African country and conduct further studies thereon exploring the grounds for economic cooperation.

Nematzadeh said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is willing to make the industrial, mineral and commercial experience available to Somalia.

Ahmed Hassan, for his part, called on Iran to help Somalia push forward the plan for reconstruction.

As to Irans proposal to upgrade contacts between Tehran and Mogadishu chambers of commerce, he welcomed the proposal and said that Somalia is keen on utilizing every avenues for enhanced economic ties.

Iran can use Somalian potentials in favor of both nations, Ahmed Hassan said.

He called for Iranian expertise to equip the Somalian transport and education systems required for the countrys civil servants of trade and industries.
