FM defends President Rouhanis diplomatic campaign against sanctions

Tehran, Nov 3, IRNA Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a formal session of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission defended President Rouhanis diplomatic campaign against sanctions, lawmaker Seyyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said on Sunday.
Naqavi Hosseini who is the rapporteur of the Commission said the foreign minister had attended the session to answer questions asked by three MPs.

Zarif said in response to a question about Holocaust by lawmaker Karimi Qoddousi that the main question is that why the Palestinians should pay the price for killing of the Jewish people during World War II while the crimes have taken place in Europe and by Europeans, Naqavi Hosseini said.

When Qoddousi asked Zarif why he had encouraged President Rouhani to hold phone talks with his US counterpart Barack Obama during New York visit, Zarif replied he and the president had taken no action against guidelines of the Supreme Leader.

Another lawmaker Abbas Moqtadaei asked Zarif how he thinks about national interests.

Afterwards Karimi Qoddousi asked the foreign minister about any possible agreements with Group 5+1 about uranium enrichment, Zarif rejected any report in this regard as fabricated, saying, We have not made any agreements about uranium enrichment by any means.

Lawmaker Hosseinali Shahriari asked Zarif to explain why terrorist groups cross the Iranian border and carry out terrorist actions along Pakistani border and what the Foreign Ministry has done to prevent the repetition of such actions.

Zarif said the Foreign Ministry has taken firm measures in this regard.

None of the lawmakers were convinced by responses provided by the foreign minister, according to Naqavi Hosseini.
