Iran-IAEA talks paves way for successful Iran-5+1 n-talks: analyst

Islamabad, Nov 2, IRNA A Pakistani analyst on Saturday said that recent talks between Iran and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have paved the way for successful Iran-5+1 nuclear negotiations scheduled to be held in November.
Talking to IRNA Shahidur Rehman, added that sanctions against Iran have proved to be counterproductive and should be lifted at the earliest.

He said that Iran under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is entitled to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.

The joint statement issued after Iran-UN nuclear watchdog talks said, Iran presented a new proposal on practical measures as a constructive contribution to strengthen cooperation and dialogue with a view to future resolution of all outstanding issues.

Rehman said any agreement between Iran and West over nuclear issue would benefit both parties. Iran should be allowed to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes without any hindrance, said the journalist.

He added that Iran is indigenously developing fuel for Tehran research center which is a great achievement.

Rehman went on to say that sanctions have made Iran more powerful and strong. Sanctions cannot deter progress of any country rather they are useless especially in the case of Iran, said the analyst.

He said that positive attitude adopted by the G5+1 in talks with Iran shows that in principle they have accepted Irans nuclear right, adding that the gap between the two sides can be bridged only through talks.

The journalist said that western countries have been pursuing biased approach and policy of double standards towards the Islamic world.

He was of the opinion that the NPT clearly shows the discriminatory approach of West towards Muslim countries.

Rehman is a senior journalist and security analyst. He has also authored a book about Pakistans nuclear program Long Road to Chaghi in 1999.
