Anti-regime protesters in Bahrain have held demonstrations in several towns and villages across the country.Demonstrators on Wednesday chanted slogans against the ruling Al Khalifa family and expressed solidarity with the opposition leaders who have been imprisoned by the regime.
The protests were held after a court sentenced ten anti-regime protesters to jail.
Nine of the protesters were sentenced to between three months and one year in prison for participating in anti-regime demonstrations. Another protester was given a six-month jail term for an alleged attack on a police station.
In another incident also on Wednesday, Bahraini regime forces stormed and shut down an exhibition called the revolution museum, two days after it was opened by Bahrains main opposition group, al-Wefaq. The event had been organized to document regime brutality over the past months of the uprising in Bahrain.
According to al-Wefaq, the Manama regimes harsh clampdown on activists has intensified over the past months.
Amnesty International has also censured the Bahraini regime over its crackdown on protesters.
Bahrainis have been staging demonstrations since mid-February 2011, calling for political reforms and a constitutional monarchy, a demand that later changed to an outright call for the ouster of the ruling Al Khalifa family following its brutal crackdown on popular protests.
Scores have been killed, many of them under torture while in custody, and thousands more have been detained since the beginning of the popular uprising.
