Kish gas field to start pumping 100 mcf/d

TEHRAN (FNA)- Irans offshore Kish gas field is expected to start pumping 100 million cubic feet (mcf) per day of natural gas by March 2014, the projects operator said.

Homayoun Kazzemeini said Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh has called for early production from this field.

Mr Zanganeh underlined the necessity for early production from Kish gas field... and ordered that the necessary measures be undertaken to remove obstacles to development of the field, he told the oil ministry's website.

Kazzemeini said the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC) is ready for early recovery from this huge gas field.

The necessary gas for the power plant in Kish Island will be supplied from two wells in this field, he said, adding that one well alone will be enough to supply the necessary energy.

Each well will be able to produce 100 mcf/d of gas, the official said. He added that a pipeline stretching from Cluster A or B of Kish gas field to a pressure booster station needs to be laid.

Kazzemeini said National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has financed early gas production from this massive field.

He added that development of Kish gas field will be done in three phases.

He said Zanganeh has ordered the production of one billion cubic feet of gas from the field.

Kish gas field is the largest independent gas reservoir in Iran. It is estimated to contain around 66 trillion cubic feet of gas and 514 million barrels of gas condensate in the depth of 4,400 meters.

The field is potentially capable of producing three to five billion cubic feet of gas a day.
