Syrian army continues advances in Reef Damascus, Reef Lattakia

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army continued its mop-up operations in Reef (countryside of) Damascus and Reef Lattakia in the Southern and Western parts of the Muslim country on Wednesday, killing tens of armed rebels in heavy clashes.

Fierce clashes broke out between the Syrian troops and the armed rebels at a military checkpoint near Tamiko Pharmaceutical Factory in Al-Maliha region in Reef Damascus.

In Reef Lattakia, the army killed tens of armed rebels, including several non-Syrian Arab nationals, in Al-Kabir village.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against the Syrian police, border guards, statesmen, army and civilians being reported across the country.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

Thousands of people have been killed since terrorist and armed groups turned protest rallies into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
