Unfair sanctions threaten world peace: Iran official

Unfair sanctions threaten world peace: Iran official
An Iranian deputy foreign minister says discriminatory policies and restrictive measures such as unfair sanctions against developing countries run counter to the UN Charter and pose a serious threat to global peace and security.
As one of the founders of the United Nations, the Islamic Republic of Iran pays special heed to the organizations performance in countering challenges in the current tumultuous and changing world, Abbas Araqchi said in a ceremony held to mark the United Nations Day.

Iran participates in all activities pertaining to planning and implementing the UN goals, policies and approaches, he said.

Araqchi, who is deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, emphasized that the UN should move to make political reforms and serve the nations common interests.
The UN reforms must reflect changes in the international system, particularly the increasing role of the developing countries, nations right to determine their own fate and their right to use scientific progress and modern technologies, Araqchi stated, adding that Iran has always presented constructive proposals for the UN reforms.
As one of the victims of coup, war, violence and terrorism, we have always tried to help the international communitys move towards peace and justice, and to head off the harmful consequences of warmongering policies and extremism, the Iranian official pointed out.

He stressed the importance of sustainable and fair national, regional and global development and stated that Iran remains committed to comprehensive and justice-based development.
