Syrian army repels militants attack on military airport in Reef Idlib
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army repelled an attack by armed rebel groups on a military airport in Reef (countryside of) Idlib in Northwestern Syria on Sunday.

The militants were planning to attack Abu Zohour Airport in Reef Idlib today, but they were pushed back by the Syrian army units who inflicted heavy losses on the insurgents.

The army destroyed several hideouts of the armed groups which were used by snipers.

A large number of the armed rebels have been killed and injured during the Syrian armys operations in Reef Idlib.

Also earlier this week, the Syrian army attacked bastions of the Al-Nusra Front in the strategic Taftaz military airport in Reef Idlib, killing tens of terrorists and injuring dozens more in heavy clashes.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
