Nature of modern warfare changing: commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The threats nowadays have assumed new shapes and forms, commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force explained, noting that modern warfare takes place in an asymmetrical atmosphere.
We are confronted by a new class of threats which are different from the past ones in terms of type and shape, Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said in a gathering of military officials on Sunday.

He said the current atmosphere is called an "asymmetrical atmosphere" by military experts and strategists, adding, In such an atmosphere, we do not witness regional wars anymore, but confrontation between two countries, one of which uses advanced technologies, while the other one possesses technologies of a lower grade."

The commander also emphasized the necessity for determining the strengths and weaknesses of the contemporary threats, adding that the Ground Force has developed a comprehensive plan to thrive in the new atmosphere.

In relevant remarks on August 15, Brigadier General Pourdastan placed emphasis on human factor in modern warfare, saying human factor and asymmetric tactics now play a bigger role compared with the past conflicts.

The future wars will be human-centered wars," Pourdastan stated at the time.
