FAO to contribute to nine food projects in Iran
Mashhad, Razavi Khorassan Prov., Oct 14, IRNA The Food and Agriculture Organization said on Monday that it has decided to support nine food producing units in Iran with specialized know-how.
The FAO envoy Nureddin Mona told the Second National Seminar of World Food Day that the projects will target elimination of hunger, malnutrition and poverty, fisheries, forestry, food security and sustainable farming in rural regions, activation of the comprehensive and efficient agricultural and food supply systems and increasing possibility of return to conditions before crisis or natural disaster.

He said that FAO activities focus on support for agriculture and its development, promoting sustainable management of environment and all renewable natural resources such as water and soil.

We are interested in building good links with other sectors engaged in food security such as health ministry, universities, non-governmental organizations and civil society; So, we would do our best to broaden our activities to cover all the domains.

To improve food safety and security, the FAO representative office in Iran has on behalf of the FAO Near East Regional Office signed an accord with Tehran University Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources to cooperate in development of agriculture, management of natural resources, rural development and scientific and technical information exchange, he added.

He suggested that FAO is ready to extend technical, information and education assistance to Iran in order to upgrade knowledge and skills of Iranian food industry owners, including immediate manufacturers.
The services aim to preventing failure rather than controlling the food safety systems.
