Iran finalist in Asian Men Volleyball Championship
Iranian volleyball players have reached the finals round of the 2013 Asian Mens Volleyball Championship by beating powerhouse Japan.
The reigning Asian volleyball champions defeated the Japanese side on Saturday by winning three straight sets 25-19, 25-16 and 25-13 in the semifinals of the tourney in the United Arab Emirates.

Iran had hit Lebanon by 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-17) on October 5 to reach the semifinals.

Iranian volleyball players will face South Korea in the final match. Iran had already beaten the powerful team 3-1 (25-19, 25-16, 22-25, 25-23) on October 3 to book a place in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

In its opening match at the tournament on September 28, Iran defeated Kazakhstan in three straight sets (25-21, 25-17, and 25-22).

Iranians continued their victories in the second encounter of the preliminary round of the tourney on September 29, and crushed the Kuwaiti team 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, and 25-17).

On October 1, Iranian volleyball players gained their third 3-0 victory at the 2013 Asian Senior Mens Volleyball Championships against Iraq, and routed their opponents (25-16, 25-17, and 25-20).

The Asian games kicked off in Dubai on September 28 and will wrap up on October 6.
