Parliament Commission to study Iran-Oman gas deal

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Members of the Iranian Parliaments Energy Commission plan to discuss details of a gas agreement signed between Tehran and Muscat on August 26.
In a meeting due to be held on October 6, members of the Parliaments Energy Commission will study the said agreement in detail.

The meeting will be attended by the Oil Ministry officials.

Earlier on August 26, Iran and Oman signed an agreement on energy cooperation during Omani Sultans visit to Tehran.

Irans Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and his Omani counterpart Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy signed the agreement on gas export from Iran to the neighboring country as part of an Omani high-ranking delegation visit to Iran headed by Oman ruler Sultan Qaboos.

Zanganeh had announced at the time that under the deal, gas export to the Arab neighboring country would start in less than two years.

He had also stated that gas contracts are mainly signed for a 25 year period adding total value of the exports will hit $60 bln considering today natural gas prices.

According to the Iranian minister, construction of the planned pipeline, its length and the various possible routes, would be studied very quickly and pipe laying operations will start soon after a final decision made on the final route.

The gas transfer deal with Oman is reportedly the largest economic agreement between the two countries so far.
