TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Reacting to Monday comments by the US president that the use of force was still on the table in dealing with Iran, a top IRGC commander said on Wednesday the Iranian forces have detailed, operational plans to effectively confront the enemies.
“Iran’s options are on the ground; we do not live in vacuum and plans for overcoming the enemies have been devised and prepared,” IRGC Lieutenant Commander Brigadier General Hossein Salami said in the northwestern city of Tabriz.
He added that the US antagonism towards the Islamic Republic is ingrained in the policies of that country and bound to continue, and that “we are preparing ourselves for further resistance.”
Referring to the phone talk between the Iranian and the US presidents, the IRGC top commander said, “It would have been better if the conversation had not been made.”
The hope was that the Friday phone conversation between an American and Iranian Presidents, which was the first such direct contact in more than three decades, could thaw the deep- freeze in relations between the two countries.
But the optimism was dealt a blow three days later when US President Barack Obama told the Israeli premier that the use of force was still on the table in dealing with Tehran.
