Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi has expressed optimism about the prospect of Tehrans nuclear talks with the six world powers.In response to a question about the need for the removal of sanctions slapped on Iran over the countrys nuclear energy program, Salehi told reporters on Tuesday that such details must be discussed during the upcoming negotiations, adding, I am optimistic about the future talks.
Following a Thursday meeting between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany in New York over Tehrans nuclear energy program, US Secretary of State John Kerry said Washington could begin removing bans on Tehran within months if a transparent process is in place over the nuclear issue.
The United States, Israel and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with the US and the European Union using the unsubstantiated claim as an excuse to impose illegal sanctions against Tehran.
The bans come on top of four rounds of US-instigated UN Security Council sanctions against Iran under the same pretext.
Iran has categorically rejected the allegation, stressing that as a committed member of International Atomic Energy Agency and a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, it is entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
Regarding the recent warmongering rhetoric by US President Barack Obama against Tehran, Salehi noted that many governments are worried over growing interaction between Iran and the West due to their ill intentions.
This is while, as repeatedly stated by the Leader of the [Islamic] Revolution [Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei], the Islamic Republic seeks to interact with the entire world on equal footing, he noted.
At a Monday meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington, Obama said the US will take no options off the table with regard to Iran.
The meeting between Obama and Netanyahu comes only days after Iran President Hassan Rouhani and his US counterpart had a landmark phone conversation on September 27 mainly focusing on Irans nuclear energy program.
It was the first direct communication between an Iranian and a US president since the victory of Irans Islamic Revolution more than three decades ago.
The two presidents stressed political will of Tehran and Washington to swiftly resolve the dispute over Irans nuclear energy program.
