Iran volleyball team blanks Kuwait in Asia games

The Iranian mens national volleyball team has pummeled Kuwait to gain its second victory at the 2013 Asian Mens Volleyball Championship.
Defending Asian volleyball champions blanked Kuwait 3-0 in their last game of the preliminary round of the tourney in Pool C at Hamdan bin Mohammed sports complex in the United Arab Emirates Dubai on Sunday.

Iran won the three straight sets 25-13, 25-12, and 25-17 in an encounter that did not last more than 50 minutes.

Irans Argentinean Head Coach Julio Velasco adopted the same combination used in the first match against Kazakhstan.

In other matches of the day, Australia beat Bahrain 3-1, China blanked Saudi Arabia 3-0, Qatar hit India 3-2, Japan hammered Oman 3-0, and South Korea thrashed Iraq with the same result.

On Saturday, Iranian volleyball players overpowered Kazakhstan 3-0 in their opening match of the 17th round of the matches.

Iran will face Iraq in Pool K of the tournament on October 1.

Twenty-four teams originally participated in the tournament. However, since Jordan, Indonesia, and Pakistan pulled out of the tourney, the number was reduced to 21, which forced the authorities to make adjustments in the pools composition.

The Asian games kicked off in Dubai on September 28 and will wrap up on October 6.
