No country would act according to our interests, and naturally they would seek their own national interests; it is far from being wise to expect otherwise. And the US is not an exception to this rule, Velayati added, saying that the US has not viewed our revolution positively since its inception, and did not want an Islamic Republic in the region, where interests of Iranian people are preferred and upheld over US interests.
Velayati attributed the US resentment to 2 factors. First, Iran was a powerful country in the region; and second, Iran sought to present an example for other nations in the region, he said.
