A senior Iranian cleric has praised President Hassan Rouhani for his strong, rich and logical speech at the UN General Assembly in New York.
Tehran interim Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani said the presidents remarks serve as an instance of what Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei termed as heroic flexibility.
Addressing the commanders and officials of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on September 17, Ayatollah Khamenei said he is not opposed to right diplomatic maneuverings and heroic flexibility in dealing with the West.
Ayatollah Emami Kashani expressed hope that the Rouhani administration will be able to overcome the political and economic challenges facing the Iranian nation.
Emami Kashani further referred to a remark by US President Barack Obama, who said Washington was not after toppling the Iranian government.
They themselves know that this establishment cannot be overthrown, he said, adding that the establishment that is founded on the efforts of every single member of the Iranian nation and on divine and Islamic values cannot be toppled.
The cleric insisted, however, that words alone are not enough and the West must prove its goodwill in action.
In his address to the UN, Rouhani said Iran poses no threat to the world and Tehran is ready for talks on its nuclear energy program with complete transparency.
He stated that the Iranian nuclear energy program has always been a peaceful one, saying, This has been, and will always be, the objective of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He also urged Obama to reject the short-sighted interest of warmongering pressure groups if he wants to manage differences with Tehran.
