New York, Sept 28, IRNA -- EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and International Cooperation, Cristalina Georgieva appreciated key role that Iran can play for shipment of international assiatnce to the Syrian refugees.
In an exclusive interview with IRNA, Georgieva said, We are glad that the Iranian president has stressed the need to airlift assistance to the war-torn Syrian nation.
The European Union has been in contact with the Iranian officials over humanitarian situation in Syria and such consultations seems to continue in the future, she said.
Elaborating on the difficulties on the way of assisting Syrian people, particularly in areas that the warring parties are fighting to take control, she said that a large number of aid workers have been attacked and killed.
She called on all regional governments to push both sides into facilitating the flow of humanitarian aids into the country.
Underlining the role of Russia, she said that that Iranian role is even more important than that of Russia since it can provide channels to send humanitarian aid to Syria.
