TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian parliament speaker criticized the US for its illogical behavior towards nuclear talks with Iran, saying its unreasonable to speak of negotiations and military threat in the same breath.We should listen to the statements of the US and western officials, sometimes they say we will negotiate and at the same time they say the war project is on the table. This is not the logic and behavior of negotiation and the US lacks such logic and behavior, Ali Larijani said on Saturday during an official ceremony to inaugurate the nuclear medicine department of the second phase of Razavi Hospital in Irans northeastern city of Mashhad.
The Iranian speaker further lashed out at the US and certain western countries for trying to coerce the Islamic Republic to give in to their illogical demands, and said this is not possible to enter negotiations with the use of force.
The United States and Israel, together with some western countries, have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.
Iran rejects the allegation, arguing that as a committed signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the IAEA, it is entitled to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
Larijani further described Iran as a dignified state which he said will continue to achieve success in the field of peaceful nuclear energy, adding that the Iranian nation is not afraid of the threat mongers.
We should explicitly announce this fact that Irans independence in nuclear energy technology is a legitimate right (and) we should defend our stances in this sphere, he emphasized.
Iran, a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, considers nuclear enrichment an inalienable right, and has on numerous occasions reiterated that it wants nuclear energy for purely peaceful purposes, and that it is on religious, ethical and practical grounds opposed to nuclear weapons.
The US, which has thousands of strategic and tactical nuclear weapons, and Israel, which is assumed to have a sizeable nuclear weapons arsenal and has not signed off on the nuclear non-Proliferation Treaty, have not ruled out military option to halt Iran's nuclear program.
Israel is believed to have developed an offensive biological warfare capability as well. The US Congress Office of Technology Assessment records Israel as possessing a long-term, undeclared biological warfare program. Israel is not a signatory to the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC).
Israel has not been content to have only nuclear and biological weapons but also has chemical weapons as well since it has signed but not ratified the Chemical Weapons Convention.
