Seven civilians killed, several others injured in Aleppo rocket attack

At least seven Syrian civilians have been killed and many others injured in a rocket attack in the northern city of Aleppo.
At least seven Syrian civilians have been killed and many others injured in a terrorist rocket attack in the northern city of Aleppo.
The deaths happened after militants fighting against the Syrian government fired a rocket-propelled grenade at a residential building in Aleppo's Baron Street on Wednesday.

A woman is reported to be among the dead. The attack also caused heavy material damage.

The attack comes a day after five civilians were killed in a mortar attack in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports say Syria's Kurdish militants have forced al-Qaeda-linked militants out of a village near the border with Turkey after days of clashes.

Militants from the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) are reported to be in control of the village of Aluk, which is located east of the strategic town of Ras al-Ain on the border with Turkey.

At least 21 people from both sides have reportedly been killed in the fierce fighting. Reports suggest that militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant as well as al-Nusra Front have entered the village from the Turkish border area.

A recent study by IHS Jane's, a British defense consultancy, shows that there are about 100,000 foreign-backed militants operating inside Syria, fragmented into 1,000 groups.

IHS Jane's estimates that some 10,000 militants are fighting for groups affiliated with al-Qaeda such as al-Nusra Front and the rest fight for different militant groups.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since March 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.

According to the UN, more than 100,000 people have been killed and a total of 7.8 million of others displaced due to the violence.
