A political commentator says even though the United States “has effectively been forced to a course of diplomacy” on Syria, the “attack dog” forces are still pushing for a military strike on the Arab country.“Within the USA, there are profound attack dog aggressive forces as for example exemplified by Senator John McCain and Senator Lindsey Graham who still think that they have a right to attack anybody around the world who have no sense of cooperation or morality,” Rodney Shakespeare told Press TV on Saturday.
He made the comments after Republican senators McCain and Graham criticized a deal aimed at putting an end to Washington’s war rhetoric by destroying Syria’s chemical weapons stockpile.
In a statement released on Saturday, the hawkish senators said that the US-Russia agreement was "an act of provocative weakness" by the US that would not resolve the Syrian conflict.
Shakespeare explained that Western countries are always considering attacks against other nations.
“There has been apparently a great big change in international relations, whereas the West is an arrogant bullying force and all the time thinks it may militarily attack those countries and indeed those individuals who cannot strike back,” Shakespeare said.
“The USA, controlled by Zionism and its cronies such as France, have been brought up against the reality that Russia has put itself into the situation of Syria and that any military attack risks a robust response,” he added.
On Saturday, US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reached an agreement on a framework for Syria to verify it is eliminating all its chemical weapons.
They also raised the specter of a potential resolution at the United Nations Security Council to authorize both sanctions and the use of military force if the Syrian government fails to comply.
Under the agreement, the government of President Bashar al-Assad must destroy its stockpile of chemical weapons by mid-2014.
