TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Turkish communist leader condemned the use of chemical weapons in Syria, but said there is no evidence to prove that the Syrian government has used such weapons.

"The imperialists have used the chemical weapons as a pretext to intensify the siege on the Syrian people while there is not even a single shred of evidence to prove the use of such weapons by the Damascus government," Aydemir Guler told FNA on Monday.

"Accusing the Damascus government of using chemical weapons in a region where the Syrian soldiers are present and fighting the terrorists with military superiority is not believable at all," he added.

The same remarks were earlier uttered by Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani late August.

He said that there is no evidence that the Syrian government has used such weapons since it doesnt need to do so.

During the phone talk, President Putin said international issues have become very complicated, adding that Russia, like Iran, believes that use of weapons of mass destruction, including chemical weapons, is unacceptable.

Putin said no evidence has been given on the use of chemical weapons by the government of Syria, adding that Russia does not believe that Syrian government has used chemical weapons since they have been advancing in the war and did not need to do it.
