Iran to hold transportation meetings with Turkey, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan
TEHRAN (FNA)- Deputy Iranian Road and Urban Development Minister Shahriyar Afandizadeh announced that Tehran plans to hold transportation meetings with Ankara, Baku and Kabul to further expand relations with its neighbors in the transit of goods to and from the country.

Afandizadeh made the remarks, elaborating on the results of the last week trip by Iranian Minister of Road and Urbanization Abbas Akhoundi and his accompanying delegation to Istanbul, Turkey, to participate in the 11th International Conference of Transportation Ministers.

"(During the meetings Akhoundi had with the Turkish officials) it was decided that a transportation meeting will be held between Iran and Turkey in the (Iranian) month of Mehr (September 23 to October 22) to work out a large number of facilities and possibilities and remove the obstacles to the development of transportation between the two countries," he told FNA on Monday.

Afandizadeh also referred to a meeting Akhoundi had with Azeri transportation officials on the sidelines of the Istanbul conference, and said they decided to hold a bilateral meeting in Iran or Azerbaijan soon.

He said that the Iranian minister also had a meeting with the Afghan officials during which they decided to hold a meeting in Tehran in the presence of Afghanistan's transportation minister to increase the capacity of border terminals and the volume of goods transited via the two countries.

In relevant remarks in January, Afandizadeh said that Iran attaches great importance to its transportation cooperation with the neighboring countries.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran attaches great importance to the transit of goods and is seeking to expand its transit ties with neighboring states," he told FNA at the time.
