Iran plans to quadruple annual goods transit
TEHRAN, Sep. 8 (MNA) Iran plans to quadruple transit of goods to as much as 50 million tons per year, Iranian Transport and Urban Development Minister.
However, Abbas Akhoundi did not specify a date to attain the goal.

Akhoundi added that about 12 million tons of goods were transited through the country in 2012.

According to official statistics, the transited consignments mostly consisted of fuel, construction materials, home appliances, vehicles, foodstuff, and chemical fertilizers.

The Iranian Deputy Transport and Urban Development Minister, Shahriyar Afandizadeh, has said that 106 countries transited their goods via Iran in the past year.

Irans Ports and Maritime Organization Director Ataollah Sadr has said that the country earns about 14 trillion rials (nearly $565 million based on the U.S. official exchange rate of 24,800 rials) annually through transiting goods via ports.
