Syrian Kurd official voices opposition to military attack on Syria

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Syrian Kurdish official voiced opposition to the US threats of a military action against Syria, stressing that such an attack will only mean to guarantee Israel's security.

"We are opposed to any military attack against Syria by any foreign side," Ezzeddin Boro, one of the prominent leaders of the Syrian Kurdistan's People's Party and the party's representative in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, told FNA on Saturday.

"The offensive will not be waged with the aim of toppling the Syrian government, rather its main goal will be weakening the two sides of the conflict in Syria and, as a result, guarantee Israel's security and tranquility in the next few decades," he added.

Last Saturday, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel claimed that the White House is studying different military options against Syria.

Hagel suggested the Pentagon is moving forces into place ahead of possible military action against Syria, even as President Barack Obama voiced caution.

The US and other western countries have adopted the rhetoric of war against Syria over allegations that the Syrian government was behind a recent chemical attack near Damascus.

The call for military strike intensified after the militants operating inside Syria and the foreign-backed Syrian opposition claimed on August 21 that hundreds had been killed in a government chemical attack on militant strongholds in the Damascus suburbs of Ain Tarma, Zamalka and Jobar. The Syrian government has strongly denied the claim, accusing the militants of the attack.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
