Over a dozen Afghan policemen have been killed and ten others wounded in a Taliban ambush in Afghanistans Farah Province.
A convoy of police who went to inspect a highway patrol unit was caught in a Taliban ambush on Wednesday, Farah province spokesman Abdul Rahman Zhuwandi said on Thursday.
He added that the attack triggered an intense exchange of gunfire between the two groups in Bakwa District of the province.
There was fighting between them in which 15 national police were killed and 10 wounded, while several Taliban were also killed, Zhuwandi added.
The Taliban militant have escalated attacks against Afghan and foreign forces in recent months.
Insecurity remains in Afghanistan despite the presence of thousands of foreign forces, more than a decade after the US-led invasion of the country in 2001.
